In today's global marketplace, entrepreneurship is the indispensable element to America's growth and prosperity and absolutely essential to our continued economic and political leadership in the world.
The School for the Entrepreneur provides adventurous Culver students with dynamic opportunities to learn--and practice--the skills of entrepreneurship that will prepare them for the real-world challenges of the 21st century.
Through interaction with highly successful entrepreneurs, and challenging tasks that require collaboration and teamwork, students gain a deeper appreciation for innovation, creativity, and the magic of the entrepreneurial spirit.
The School for the Entrepreneur was founded in the fall of 2007 to provide adventurous Culver students with the opportunity to interact with highly creative entrepreneurs who have experienced dramatic success in a variety of exciting enterprises. The program was originally designed to provide a setting for small, informal gatherings where Culver students can have intimate conversations with men and women who bring a special innovation and creativity to free market capitalism.
The program’s objectives include helping participants gain a deeper understanding of creative and innovative thinking, adaptability, articulating arguments, collaboration and competition, learning from failures, and a global mind-set.

The Start!
The pilot project (2006-2007) featured a campus wide essay contest where twenty Culver students with an entrepreneurial flair were chosen. The inaugural class participated in three separate sessions, the first two of which were on the Culver campus and featured highly successful guest entrepreneurs. Ms. Lyn Heward, one of the geniuses behind Cirque du Soleil, and author John U. Bacon, inspired the students on Sunday, February 4th, with stories of creativity and innovation. Global investment manager Marshall Stocker was the guest entrepreneur for the second session, Sunday, March 11th. Mr. Stocker spoke on the virtues of the free enterprise system.
The last session, April 13th, took place at the Dallas-Hamilton Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership on the campus of Bowling Green State University, where the students attended an all-day seminar on "entrepreneurial thinking" (see attached program). This event provided the opportunity to interact with some world-class entrepreneurs, like Bob Sebo, founder of PayChex, and venture capitalist Guy Kawasaki.
To supplement the pilot project's three sessions, each student-entrepreneur received copies of John Wood's Leaving Microsoft to Change the World , and Lyn Heward and John U. Bacon’s The Spark: Igniting the Creative Fire That Lives Within Us All.
The School for the Entrepreneur received strong applications from more than 40 students for the class of 2008. Twenty-six were accepted into the program. The curriculum for 2008 includes group collaboration and competition featuring Mentor entrepreneurs (profiled above); global networking via AT&T videoconferencing; corporate sponsorship; field trips to New York City, Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona, the Business Plan Competition at the Gigot Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business; and a second annual visit to the Dallas-Hamilton Center at Bowling Green State University. Whirlpool Corporation's "Innovation Team" will spend the evening with the class of 2008 on Monday, May 5, and conduct an "innovation strategy" session with Culver's entrepreneurs. The year will conclude on Reunion Weekend with formal presentations by the entrepreneurs before a panel of alumni. Each "team" will present an in-depth analysis of their Mentor entrepreneur.
Any Culver student is eligible to apply to the School for the Entrepreneur.. Further information, and an application for the class of 2008-2009, will be available next fall.
